BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 18. The volume of trade turnover in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku grew from January through March 2023, Trend reports via the Baku City Statistics Department.
According to the department, this figure amounted to over 7.5 billion manat ($4.4 billion), up by 4.9 percent in annual terms.
The volume of food, beverages, and tobacco products sold in the markets of Baku, in the first quarter of this year, increased by 9.3 percent up to 4.6 billion manat ($2.7 billion) compared to the same period in 2022.
Meanwhile, the sales of non-food products declined by 3.9 percent to 2.8 billion manat ($1.6 billion) year over year.
As the department noted, 35.1 percent of the sold products fell on enterprises with the status of a legal entity, 46.8 percent accounted for retail facilities owned by individual entrepreneurs, and 18.1 percent accounted for the markets of Baku.
The volume of trade turnover in Baku in 2022 increased by five percent compared to 2021 and totaled 30.8 billion manat ($18.1 billion).
According to the State Customs Committee, Azerbaijan's foreign trade turnover last year increased by 55.36 percent or by $18.7 billion year-on-year from $33.9 billion to $52.6 billion.
