Azerbaijan records surge in employment rate

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 12. The number of employees increased by 32,900 people or 1.9 percent as of May 1, 2023, compared to the same period in 2022 in Azerbaijan, Trend reports.

According to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, the total number of employees on May 1, 2023, amounted to 1.7 million people, including 901,100 in the public sector of the economy and 833,100 in the private sector. Of the total number of employed citizens, 19.2 percent work in education, 18.7 percent in trade and vehicle repair, 12.8 percent in industry, 8.3 percent in health and social services, and 6.7 percent in construction.

Moreover, 6.4 percent are employed in public administration, defense and social security, 4.3 percent - in transport and warehousing, 3.6 percent - in agriculture, forestry and fisheries, 3.6 percent - in science and technology, 2.1 percent - in the financial and insurance sectors, 14.3 percent - in other industries.

According to preliminary data, the average monthly nominal salary of employees in Azerbaijan from January through April 2023 increased by 10.8 percent compared to the same period last year and amounted to 913.9 manat ($537.5).

The average monthly nominal salary was higher in the mining industry, financial and insurance activities, information and communications, as well as in the field of scientific and technical activities.
