Azerbaijan's total industrial manufacturing value slightly decreases

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 13. The total manufacturing value of products by industrial enterprises and individual entrepreneurs in Azerbaijan slightly decreased from January through May 2023, Trend reports.

The State Statistics Committee data shows that this figure amounted to 29.6 billion manat ($17.4 billion), down by 1.9 percent on annual basis.

In the first five months of this year, production in the oil and gas sector decreased by 2.8 percent, while in the non-oil sector increased by 7.4 percent compared to the same period of 2022.

At the same time, 70.4 percent of the industrial production accounted for the mining sector, 24.4 percent - for the processing industry, 4.4 percent - for the production, distribution and supply of electricity, gas and steam, and 0.7 percent - for the water supply, waste treatment and recycling sectors.

Besides, commercial oil production from January through May 2023 in Azerbaijan declined by 8.4 percent, while commercial gas production grew by 2.9 percent compared to the same period in 2022.

In the reporting period, the manufacturing of computers, electronic and optical products grew by 2.1 times, wood processing and production - by 86.4 percent, and printing products - 50.5 percent.

Meanwhile, manufacturing of textile products rose by 49.9 percent, production of paper and cardboard - by 40.4 percent, cars, trailers and semi-trailers – by 32.9 percent, beverages - by 27.4 percent, machinery and equipment - by 23.5 percent, and.

At the same time, the manufacturing of petroleum products increased by 25.4 percent, building materials - 18.8 percent, rubber and plastic products - 16.5 percent, food products - 13.3 percent, finished metal products - 9.7 percent, machinery and equipment - nine percent, chemical products - 8.9 percent, tobacco products - 8.4 percent, furniture - 4.4 percent, and electrical equipment - by 2.4 percent.

According to the committee, from January through May 2023, manufacturing of leather and its products, as well as footwear decreased by 0.4 percent, pharmaceuticals - by 16.4 percent, industrial products - 18.7 percent, clothing - by 28.4 percent, other vehicles (apart from cars, trailers and semi-trailers) - by 30.6 percent, metallurgical industry products - by 37.9 percent, work on installation and repair of machinery and equipment - by 40.1 percent.

Moreover, in the first five months of this year, the volume of production in the sector of generation, distribution and supply of electricity, gas and steam grew by 5.5 percent, while in the sector of water supply, waste treatment and recycling increased by 16.5 percent year-on-year.

In 2022, industrial enterprises and individual entrepreneurs in Azerbaijan manufactured products worth 86 billion manat ($58 billion), which was 1.1 percent less than in 2021.
