BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 15. The number of employees in Azerbaijan increased by 5,500 people (0.32 percent) on July 1, 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, Trend reports.
The data from the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan shows that the total number of employees amounted to 1.7 million people, including 894,200 in the public sector of the economy and 831,300 in the private sector as of July 1, 2023. Of the total number of employed citizens, 19 percent work in education, 18.8 percent in trade and vehicle repair, 8.4 percent in health and social services, and 6.3 percent in construction.
In addition, 6.5 percent are employed in public administration, defense, and social security; 4.2 percent in transport and warehousing; 3.6 percent in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries; 3.6 percent in science and technology; and 2.1 percent in the financial and insurance sectors.

According to preliminary data, from January through June 2023, compared to the same time previous year, the average nominal monthly wage of employees in Azerbaijan climbed by 11.5 percent to 921.9 manat ($542.3). The mining industry, financial and insurance operations, information and communications, as well as the sphere of scientific and technological activities, all had higher average monthly nominal salaries than other industries.
