BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 17. Azerbaijan imported 578,000 tons of wheat from January through July 2023, which is 34 percent (148,490 tons) more than the indicator year-on-year, Trend reports.
According to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, in value terms, wheat imports exceeded $164 million (up to 6 percent over the year).
The share of wheat imports amounted to 1 percent of Azerbaijan's total imports from January through July 2023.
Additionally, Azerbaijan imported $1 billion worth of food products from January through July 2023, a 3 percent ($40 million) rise in value.
From January through July 2023, Azerbaijan's foreign trade turnover climbed by 0.91 percent, or $274 million, year over year, or from $30.058 billion to $30.333 billion.
The structure of foreign trade turnover in exports stood for $20 billion, down $1 billion or 7% year over year, according to Azerbaijan's State Customs Committee. Exports made up 68 percent of the total foreign trade turnover, down from 75 percent a year earlier.
Azerbaijan's imports grew by $2 billion, or 27 percent, from $7 billion to about $9 billion on an annualized basis from January through July 2023. The share of imports in the foreign trade turnover amounted to 31 percent, compared with 24 percent a year earlier.
