BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 31. Eni's natural gas sales in the third quarter of 2023 amounted to 10.91 bcm - a substantial 18-percent decrease when compared to the same period in 2022 (13.33 bcm), Trend reports.
As the company reported, several factors contributed to this decline, with a significant impact stemming from lower gas volumes marketed in Italy, which experienced a sharp drop of 29 percent (from 7.07 bcm in 3Q2022 to 4.99 bcm in 3Q2023), affecting both hub sales and the industrial segment.
In European markets, gas volumes decreased by 7 percent (from 5.79 in 3Q2022 to 5.32 bcm in 3Q2023), primarily due to reduced sales in the Iberian Peninsula and Benelux, Eni added.
Zooming out to the nine-month view of 2023, the total natural gas sales stood at 36.9 bcm, showing an 18-percent decrease compared to the same period in 2022 (44.97 bcm).
Once again, the key driver for this decline was the diminished gas volumes marketed in Italy, down by 24 percent concerning the comparative period (from 23.35 bcm in 9M2023 to 17.82 bcm) , spanning all segments.
The European markets also experienced a 13-percent reduction in gas sales compared to the first nine months of 2022 - from 19.7 bcm in 9M2022 to 17.34 bcm in 9M2023.
