BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 24. US crude oil imports in December 2023 increased by 2 percent (0.1 mb/d) month-on-month, averaging 6.6 mb/d, Trend reports.

According to OPEC's data, in comparison with December 2022, crude imports witnessed a growth of 0.6 mb/d, representing an almost 11 percent increase.

According to the latest official monthly data from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), Canada retained its position as the primary supplier of crude in September, holding a share close to 62 percent and experiencing a month-on-month increase. Mexico secured the second spot with approximately 12 percent, while Saudi Arabia ranked third with around 4 percent.

Meanwhile, US crude exports experienced a decline from the robust performance of the previous month, averaging 4.3 mb/d. This indicates a month-on-month decrease of 0.4 mb/d, or approximately 9 percent. Nevertheless, compared to the same month in 2022, crude outflows were higher by 0.5 mb/d, reflecting a growth of over 13 percent.

In December, US net crude imports averaged 2.4 mb/d - up from 1.8 mb/d in November, and 2.2 mb/d in the same month of 2022.

Looking ahead, OPEC anticipates that US crude imports will likely remain well-supported in January, although exports may experience a slower pace at the beginning of the year.
