BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 26. Bulgarian state-owned gas transportation operator Bulgartransgaz announced on Thursday the signing of an operational agreement with Türkiye's company Botas to connect the two national gas transportation systems at the Strandzha-Malkoclar point, Trend reports via Bulgartransgaz.

"The agreement sets the daily technical capacity at about 117.7 million kWh for gas transportation from Türkiye to Bulgaria and 504.1 million kWh from Bulgaria to Türkiye," Bulgartransgaz said in a statement.

Therefore, the systems can operate in reverse mode.

''Each operator company in the EU must have such a technical agreement with operators in neighboring states,'' the source informed.

"The agreement is of key importance for the diversification of natural gas sources for Bulgaria, as well as regional and European gas markets," Bulgartransgaz noted.

Türkiye provides access to natural gas from local fields, as well as fields in Azerbaijan and Iran, through Türkiye's gas transportation network.

The agreement also opens access to the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) market through five regasification terminals in Türkiye.

"This agreement strengthens Bulgartransgaz's role in market integration and diversification, as well as in ensuring the security of natural gas supplies to the region and Europe," the Bulgarian company said in a statement.

To note, Bulgartransgaz manages a gas transportation network of 3,380 km and has gas connections with all neighboring countries of Bulgaria.

Meanwhile, the state-owned gas supplier Bulgargaz signed a 13-year agreement with Botas in January last year, which allows importing of 1.5 bcm of gas annually through Türkiye's transport infrastructure and LNG terminals.
