ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, August 16. Director of the TAPI pipeline project for Turkmenistan Mohammad Murad Amanov and Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Afghanistan Hoja Ovezov have met with Afghanistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Amir Khan Muttaqi to discuss the TAPI pipeline project, Trend reports via the Foreign Ministry of Afghanistan.
During the meeting, the TAPI director provided an update on the project's current status and plans for its launch in Afghanistan, requesting further cooperation from the Afghan government.
Afghan FM expressed appreciation for the efforts and assured full support from Afghanistan, emphasizing that extending the TAPI pipeline within the country is a top priority. He noted that Afghan departments have completed their preparations and expressed optimism about the imminent start of practical work.
Additionally, Amanov confirmed that Turkmenistan has already extended the pipeline to its border with Afghanistan and that preparations for its extension into Afghan territory are nearly complete.
The Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline is a major project designed to transport natural gas from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan and Pakistan to India. Expected to deliver 33 billion cubic meters annually, construction on the project began in Turkmenistan on December 13, 2015. Turkmenistan is the primary gas supplier and plays a key role in the pipeline's development, aiming to diversify its energy export routes and enhance regional economic ties.
