BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 27. Azerbaijan views the Middle Corridor as a crucial link for enhancing trade with South Korea, said Elchin Amirbayov, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan for Special Assignments, Trend reports.

Discussing economic ties in an interview with The Korean Times, he highlighted Azerbaijan’s geo-economic importance, situated on key trade routes between Asia and Europe.

"In the current geopolitical climate, with the Russia-Ukraine conflict disrupting traditional routes, the Middle Corridor - reminiscent of the ancient Silk Road - has taken on greater significance. We see this as a major area for potential collaboration with Korean logistics companies," he noted.

Amirbayov also revealed that bilateral trade in the first half of 2024 had surpassed $200 million, but stressed that there is potential for much more.

The Middle Corridor links the container rail freight transportation networks of China and the European Union countries via Central Asia, the Caucasus, Türkiye, and Eastern Europe.

The route train along this corridor delivers cargo from China to Europe in an average of 20–25 days, and this is one of the main advantages of this transport corridor.
