ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, September 12. The Nur-el-Jahad power plant in Afghanistan's Herat province has been commissioned, marking a significant step in the first phase of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission line project, Trend reports via the official Turkmen media.
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Calik Holding A.S. Ahmet Chalik, and Afghan representatives participated in the ceremony to inaugurate the electricity supply from Turkmenistan’s Serhetabat power plant to the new Nur-el-Jahad plant.
The opening of the Nur-el-Jahad power plant will strengthen energy cooperation between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan and enhance opportunities for exporting Turkmen electricity.
The project is a foundation for the development of the TAP power transmission line, opening up prospects for electricity transit to other South Asian countries.
To note, President Berdimuhamedov and other officials also attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Serhetabat-Herat section, which is crucial for the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project.
All engineering, procurement, and construction work for the high-voltage power transmission line through Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, one of the most significant projects in Asia, is being carried out by the Turkish company Calik Enerji. Founded in 1998, Calik Enerji is one of the world’s leading energy companies with numerous successful projects globally.
