SAMARKAND, Uzbekistan, September 25. The establishment of the Trans-Caspian Electricity Grid has great potential, the president of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at the opening ceremony of the annual meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank's (AIIB) Board of Governors in Samarkand, Trend reports.

“It should be noted that neighboring countries have also launched major renewable energy projects. In the coming years, Central Asia, with its abundant renewable energy resources, will become a major exporter of green energy to the global energy markets. In this context, I would like to emphasize the project on the creation of the Trans-Caspian electric network, which has great potential,” the head of state said.

According to him, in the years ahead, the country will be rolling out 18 gigawatts of solar and wind energy, 3 gigawatts of hydroelectric power plants, 5 gigawatts of storage capacity, along with power grids valued at a whopping $5 billion.

“With these projects, we also intend to create large green data centers. I believe that this will be an attractive project for all international financial organizations.

Moreover, based on renewable energy sources, a market of green certificates worth $100 million a year will be formed, and I believe that this will become a new promising direction for cooperation with international financial organizations,” the head of state added.

To note, the heads of energy ministries of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan signed a memorandum of cooperation on the interconnection of energy systems of the republics within the framework of the Tashkent International Investment Forum on May 1.

The purpose of the signed memorandum is to define the main conditions of cooperation within the framework of the project on the interconnection of energy systems of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.

The document assumes that the participants intend to explore the possibility of connecting energy systems by laying a high-voltage cable along the Caspian Sea bed and in the territory of other countries with the implementation of the most technically and economically optimal trade in green energy from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
