Regulation of methane emissions can contribute to the introduction of innovative technologies, Principal of Boston Consulting Group Dmitry Fadeev said during a panel discussion on Revolution in our understanding of GHG emissions: role of empirical data, AI, and advanced analytics on the final day of the international conference at the Climate Action Week in Baku, Trend reports.
“Regulating methane emissions can substantially influence local economies, facilitating the emergence of new sectors and the adoption of innovative technologies. For example, areas like renewable energy are anticipated to expand, along with the advent of new technology. Mitigating methane emissions is essential for fulfilling the Paris Agreement's objectives of limiting global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius,” he emphasized.
The representative of the company noted that methane comes in a close second in the lineup of culprits shaking up our climate.
“We know how to reduce methane emissions, but the biggest challenges are related to its detection, cleanup, and implementation of specific measures to reduce emissions. However, I would like to emphasize that these are not only challenges but also great development opportunities,” Fadeev added.
