BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 4. Azerbaijan leads green energy initiatives for global partnership, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said during his meeting with Brazilian Minister of Mines and Energy Alexandre Silveira, Saudi Arabian Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, and Global Renewable Energy Alliance CEO Bruce Douglas in Brazil’s Foz do Iguaçu, Trend reports via the Ministry of Energy.

The discussions highlighted the active partnership between Azerbaijan and Brazil through platforms like COP and G20, with both countries playing crucial roles in the energy transition.

Shahbazov noted that the "troika" of COP, consisting of Azerbaijan, the United Arab Emirates, and Brazil, fosters collaboration in announcing and implementing new commitments and initiatives, underscoring the importance of a smooth energy transition.

Shahbazov also mentioned Azerbaijan's commitment to developing green energy and investing in its transition. He stated that Azerbaijan is the initiator of projects that will connect Europe and Asia, ensuring the provision of green energy to various nations. Discussions also included initiatives of the COP29 presidency, focusing on climate financing and the collaborative goals of Azerbaijan and Brazil within the framework.

In talks with Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, the global oil market situation and the execution of agreements under the "OPEC+" format were discussed, along with the agenda of energy partnership projects between the two nations.

The minister also engaged in dialogue with ACWA Power about developing 1.5 GW offshore wind energy projects and a 200 MW battery energy storage system (BESS), as well as cooperation within the framework of the green energy corridor. They explored participation in COP29 events and the activities of a joint technical committee between the two countries' energy ministries.

During discussions with Bruce Douglas of the Global Renewable Energy Alliance, topics included Azerbaijan’s Global Energy Storage and Grid Commitment" initiative, advancements in offshore wind energy, and green energy transport projects. The alliance expressed interest in collaborating with Azerbaijan and outlined potential support from the private sector for network-related commitments.

The Global Renewable Energy Alliance, which specializes in renewable energy technologies and represents the private sector in this field, expressed interest in cooperation with Azerbaijan and spoke about the possible support of the private sector in fulfilling the promise related to grids. COP29 reviewed the Alliance's participation in joint activities with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and COP initiatives.
