ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 13. Possibilities of expanding cooperation in the field of theological education and scientific research between Kazakhstan and Al-Azhar University were discussed, Trend reports.
On the sidelines of the 29th UN Climate Change Conference, Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with the Supreme Imam of Al-Azhar University, Ahmed al-Tayeb.
President Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan holds great respect for the recognized authority of Al-Azhar University, which is a beacon of knowledge, peace, and spiritual guidance for the Muslim Ummah.
The President expressed gratitude to the Supreme Imam for his
contribution to strengthening tolerance and interfaith dialogue, as
well as for preaching the true principles of Islam. According to
Tokayev, these values are becoming increasingly significant in
today’s polarized and fragmented world.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev invited Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb to participate
in the 8th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions,
which will be held in Astana next year.
During the conversation, the possibilities of expanding
cooperation in the fields of theological education and scientific
research were also discussed.
Al-Azhar is one of the oldest universities in the world and the
most prestigious Muslim spiritual university. It was founded in
Cairo by the Fatimid dynasty. The main subjects taught at the
university include Islamic law, Arabic language and literature,
Qur'anic studies, and Hadith studies.
