ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, February 18. Turkmenistan will begin supplying natural gas to Türkiye on March 1, 2025, under a barter arrangement facilitated through Iran, Turkish Ambassador to Turkmenistan Ahmet Demirok announced at a press conference, Trend reports.

The agreement marks a significant milestone in energy cooperation between the two nations. According to Ambassador Demirok, the contract between Türkiye's state-owned energy company BOTAŞ and Turkmenistan’s Turkmengaz was signed on Monday, formalizing the terms of the gas supply.

"This agreement is the result of years of negotiations and represents an important step in strengthening energy ties between our countries. The deal provides for the annual delivery of up to 2 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas," Demirok stated.

Meanwhile, the agreement with BOTAŞ to transport Turkmen natural gas to Türkiye via Iran involves a swap arrangement.

Earlier in September 2024, Ambassador Ahmet Demirok revealed that Türkiye plans to import overall 300 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Turkmenistan over the next 20 years. Looking to the long term, the current project aims to expand supply to 15 billion cubic meters annually, with the gas transported via a pipeline under the Caspian Sea.
