ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 18. Kazakhstan has thrown its hat in the ring to diversify its oil supply routes and bolster its standing in energy cooperation among the Caspian countries at the 3rd Caspian Economic Forum in Tehran, Trend reports.
A topical session entitled "Energy Cooperation of the Caspian States" occurred in Tehran, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran, at the 3rd Caspian Economic Forum, featuring Kazakhstan's Deputy Minister of Energy, Alibek Zhamauov.
In his report, he discussed the advancement of the
"Kalamkas-Khazar" project in the Caspian Sea, conducted in
collaboration with PJSC "LUKOIL". Kazakhstan is gradually expanding
its oil supply channels, specifically through
Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan.
During the session, Zhamauov also raised issues related to the
falling water level of the Caspian Sea and discussed initiatives by
Kazakhstan's Ministry of Energy to prevent and manage environmental
risks in the region.
"For Kazakhstan and all the countries of the Caspian region, it is
extremely important to build a coordinated energy policy. This will
allow us to enhance our technological competencies and gain
competitive advantages in socio-economic development," said
Zhamauov.
Experts are singing from the same hymn sheet, believing that the
united front of the Caspian region countries in the energy sector
could lay a solid groundwork for the long-term health of both the
economy and the environment in the region.
To note, the Caspian Economic Forum is the collective name for
international meetings of representatives from the five Caspian
states (Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Azerbaijan),
which have been held since 2019. The meetings primarily focus on
trade and economic cooperation among the Caspian
countries.Representatives from government agencies, businesses,
science, and international organizations are involved in the
forum.
