Uzbekistan to upgrade its drinking water supply systems

The Fund for Development of Water Supply Systems under the Ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan will allocate 1.1 trillion soum ($114.4 million) to finance projects aimed at improving drinking water supply and sewerage systems in the country's regions, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.

The said improvement will take place within the framework of the Investment Program for 2019, approved by Decree of the President of Uzbekistan from 19 December 2018.

As of 1 January 2020, 1.7 billion soums ($176,834) has been allocated for construction and installation work.

In particular, within the framework of investment program for 2018-2019, the Fund allocated 51 billion soum ($5.9 million) for implementation of project Water supply of Boysun district center and rural settlements from "Khojamaikhon" source in Surkhandarya region. Over 50,000 people living in the centre of Boysun district and adjacent rural settlements currently have access to quality clean drinking water.

Under the Investment Program for 2020 approved by Presidential Decree of 10 January 2020, the fund allocated 1.3 billion soum ($135,226) for the construction and renovation of 120 water supply facilities, as well as construction of 3,400 kilometer long drinking and sewage networks at 216 facilities.

The fund also implements a project to construct a 77-kilometer Aksuv - Dehkanabad water pipeline and Aksuv water intake in Dehkanabad district .

The total cost of the project is 205 billion soum ($21.3 million), of which 131 billion soum ($13.6 million) have been used. Construction and installation works are underway at the facility.

The project will provide over 106,000 people living in the center of Dehkanabad district and 15 rural settlements with clean drinking water.

The project Improvement of the drinking water supply system in Jizzakh province through the use of water from the Zarafshan River is being implemented in accordance with the decision of the President of Uzbekistan dated 4 May 2018 in order to provide centralized quality water supply to more than 500,000 people living in Bakhmal, Gallaorol, Sharof Rashidov, Pakhtakor, Dustlik and Mirzachul districts of Jizzakh province.

The total cost of the project is 457 billion soum ($47.5 million), of which 153 billion soums ($15.9 million) has been spent. Construction and installation works are underway at the facility.
