By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

TAV Georgia will start expanding Batumi Airport in July, said Tea Zakaradze, Deputy General Manager of TAV Georgia, the operator of Tbilisi and Batumi International Airports, Trend reports via Georgian media.

According to her, construction will begin as soon as the borders are opened.

"At the moment, the main priority of the company is to start expanding the Batumi Airport, as soon as the borders are opened on July 1. It was postponed due to the pandemic and hopefully nothing will stop us and we will be able to make investment in this project,” Zakaradze said.

As reported, the project to expand Batumi International Airport will cost Tav Georgia about $10 million. New terminals will be added to the existing terminal and the airport will be able to serve more passengers.

Batumi International Airport served 47,574 passengers from January through March 2020, an 8-percent decrease year-on-year.
