By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The construction of the 13-kilometer section of the Batumi bypass is in full swing in Georgia's Adjara, Trend reports referring to the press service of the government administration.

As reported, at this point, 17 bridges and four tunnels are under construction.

On June 29, the construction site was visited by Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Maya Tskitishvili and Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous republic of Adjara Tornike Rizhvadze.

The presently available road passes through tourist and residential areas and complicates international cargo transit. Following the project's completion, the Batumi bypass, together with the Kobuleti bypass, will completely relieve traffic in Adjara's resort area, and that will help increase transit freight turnover.

Under the project, a two-lane asphalt concrete road, 19 overpasses, four traffic junctions, five tunnels, and 57 water pipes will be built. The new bypass will encompass towns such as Makhinjauri, Gantiadi, Kapreshumi, Salibauri, Peria, Makhvilauri, and Khelvachauri.

The project, with its contractual value reaching 329,630 lari ($108,232), is financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
