The Road Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia has been actively implementing rehabilitation works of Shatili approach road, Trend reports referring to the department.

The rehabilitation of one section, which is carried out as part of the Mountain Roads project, is a constituent part of reconstruction project of the Sno-Juta-Roshka-Shatili-Omalo-Khadori Gorge-Batsara-Akhmeta motorway.

Together with the Mountain Roads project, two other rehabilitation projects are being implemented with the financial support of the World Bank (WB) and three projects are being carried out with the financial support of the state budget.

"Despite geological challenges, this year, the road construction works were not suspended in Shatili. The objective of the project is to enable transport to safely drive on the approach road," the department said.

After completion of the rehabilitation works, the road will be broadened, barriers will be installed and the driving will be safer and more comfortable.

Over 86 kilometers of the road will be rehabilitated and 15 bridges will be constructed or repaired. The total value of all projects exceeds 59 million lari ($19.2 million).
