South Korean company to build cement plant in Uzbekistan

South Korean CARIS Co., Ltd plans to start construction of a cement plant in Uzbekistan's Karakalpakstan Autonomous Republic, Trend reports citing Dunyo News Agency.

This became known during a video conference between representatives of the State Committee on Geology and Mineral Resources of Uzbekistan, representatives of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan and administration CARIS Co., Ltd company.

“The Uzbek side noted the importance of implementing the project on construction of a modern cement plant in Beruniy district of Karakalpakstan. Construction of industrial facility in the region will allow creating new jobs and organizing production of export-oriented products,” the message said.

It was also reported that geological prospecting works on the proposed South Korean side of the territory in the Beruniy district have been completed. Taking into account the importance of the new project, this work was carried out in an accelerated manner and the results of the exploration were transferred to CARIS Co., Ltd. in accordance with previously reached agreements.

The Korean side expressed the company's readiness to start the active phase of work on this project and accelerate the preparation of relevant materials for the feasibility study of the project, financing planning and scheduling of the investment project in Tashkent.

The parties agreed on further plans to promote the investment project.

Currently, six large and 19 smaller cement enterprises with a total capacity of 11.1 million tons are operating in Uzbekistan. The largest of them are JSC Kyzylkumcement (3.1 million tons), JSC Ahangarancement (2.2 million tons) and the Sherabad Cement Plant (1.5 million tons).
