BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 30
By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
The construction of a cable car connecting Rustaveli Avenue to Mtatsminda in Georgian Tbilisi is returning to an active phase, Trend reports via Georgian media.
According to the Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, a tender will be announced, which will reveal the contractor for the project.
The cable car will be able to cover the distance in 4 minutes and will be able to transport 1,100 people per hour. The estimated cost of the project is 50 million lari ($15.2 million).
"After the opening of the ropeway, people will no longer need to drive to get to Mtatsminda," said Kaladze.
The ropeway was originally supposed to connect Rose Square and Mtatsminda, but later the location of the lower station was changed to a new location on the old ropeway station near the Academy of Sciences.
It should be noted that recently, the Tbilisi Transport Company requested a simplified procurement of 8.3 million euros for the cableway project from Rustaveli Avenue to Mtatsminda.
