BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 9

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Chinese Sinohydro company begins reconstruction work on the 42-km section of the Khulo-Zarzma road of Batumi (Angi)- Akhaltsikhe highway in Georgia, Trend reports via the Georgian Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure.

The agreement between the company and the ministry was reached after Sinohydro won an international tender announced by the ministry.

The Kuwait Fund For Arab Economic Development (KFAED) finances the project for 95 million lari ($30.2 million).

The Batumi-Akhaltsikhe highway project consists of three main parts. The parts to be reconstructed include 47 kilometers and 7 bridges.

This is a very sophisticated and important project, however, the Chinese company assures that they have a rich experience of implementing similar projects worldwide.

Sinohydro launched cooperation with the Government of Georgia in 2009.

Recently, the company has finished two projects. Before engaging in the Khulo-Zarzma project, the Chinese company finished six other projects in Georgia, including Rikoti Pass rehabilitation works, funded by the World Bank in 2010. Later in 2011-2013, the Chinese company rehabilitated the Kobuleti bypass road, funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB).

In 2014-2016 the company has worked on the Tbilisi-Rustavi highway. The project was financed by ADB.

As for two last projects, Sinohydro built two other roads in Georgia, a section of the Samtredia-Grigoleti road. The project was financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB).
