Russian shipbuilding corporation plans to start construction of ships in Turkmenistan

Russia’s Ak Bars Shipbuilding Corporation is ready to start joint construction of passenger and cargo civil ships in Turkmenistan, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenportal information portal.

The Turkmen side offered Ak Bars Shipbuilding Corporation to work out the issue of cargo-passenger ferry and container cargo ship together, in response to which the corporation provided them with all projects and developments, the report says.

Ak Bars signed agreements on cooperation in the field of shipbuilding with the Agency Turkmen Deniz Derya Yollary Agency (Turkmen State Service of Maritime and River Transportation) and Turkmenistan's Balkan Shipbuilding and Repairing Yard Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) during the Caspian economic forum in Avaza in August 2019.

By 2025, in accordance with the seven-year program of socio-economic development of Turkmenistan, 12 vessels are planned to be built in Turkmenistan.

AK bars shipbuilding Corporation was established on the basis of the AK Bars holding company in the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation in 2018.

Branches of the leading companies of Tatarstan, such as KAMAZ, Tatneft, and IED-Holding, operate in Turkmenistan.

Meanwhile, Turkmenistan and Russia's Tatarstan Republic have discussed the construction of various types of ships aimed at the development of a merchant fleet on April 6, 2020.

In general, Turkmenistan devotes attention to cooperation with Russia’s regions and cities, in particular with Tatarstan, Astrakhan, and Saint Petersburg.
