BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr. 28

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

A project to improve energy efficiency in construction in Uzbekistan has been launched under the auspices of the UN Economic Commission for Europe, Trend reports with reference to UN news portal.

According to the UN, the project will help the construction of highly efficient buildings, the supply of energy-saving materials, technologies, and equipment. The same project has been launched by the UN in Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, and Ukraine.

It was noted that the project aims to combat global warming and promote sustainable development. After the completion of the project, it is also planned to maintain energy-efficient building management practices.

Financing the construction of high-performance buildings and upgrading existing ones will help revitalize the local economy, increase jobs and provide better living conditions.

The UN experts urge authorities to support building renovation projects, channel investments in low-carbon infrastructure, and support companies that provide energy-efficient materials and green jobs.

According to the information, today, the construction industry accounts for 40 percent of global carbon dioxide emissions from energy and manufacturing processes. To achieve ‘zero’ emissions in this area by 2050, it is necessary to halve direct carbon dioxide emissions by 2030.
