By Fakhri Vakilov-Trend:

Uzbekistan’s Uzbekpolymer company plans to build a plant of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) with a capacity of 300,000 tons a year in the Guzar district of the Kashkadarya region, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.

Italian “Quality Engineering” company’s advanced technologies and good engineering and procurement services will be used in plant construction.

Construction will begin shortly in parallel with procurement activities to start production in accordance with the schedule. Funding is available through private equity and support from Italian banks to complete the project.

HDPE is the most durable grade of polyethylene, allowing it to be used in a wider range of applications, in addition to the use of film, which prevails the consumption of other grades.

HDPE usually competes with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in the pipe manufacturing sector.

Global PVC demand was 42.5 million tons in 2017. With consumption growing by about 3 percent per year, it is about 48 million tons in 2021.

Uzbekistan is a country with 6.5 million cubic feet of the proven gas sources, which allows the country to be a hub for downstream gas processing such as fertilizer plants, methanol, polyolefin and polypropylene to produce various types of polymers for export.

The processing of such products enables the country to enjoy a value-added product and not just export natural gas as a raw material or fuel. Such products bring in much more income for the country, as well as create many jobs in Uzbekistan.
