Akkord Group of Companies Commences Construction  of First Concrete Six-stripe Highway in   Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S. Aliyev / Azerbaijani Akkord group of companies commenced construction of the first in Azerbaijan six-stripe highway corresponding with world standards which will connect Zikh settlement and the Heydar Aliyev Airport and the length of which will make up 17km. That is a part of the project on construction of new Zikh-Gala highway, the Vice-President of Akkord Elkhan Usubov said on 28 November.

The new six-stripe highway is being constructed on the base of German technology. Equipment of well-known German Wirtgen company was involved. Two concrete placers made by Wirtgen will be brought to Baku in near future. German experts are controlling the quality of construction, Usubov said.

Some 115,000 cu m of concrete will be used for construction of the highway. Three concrete plants will be set up along the highway in order to provide for uninterrupted construction. One mobile concrete plant will also operate for this purpose. Thickness of the concrete layer will make up 28cm which corresponds with international standards, Usubov said.

Construction is expected to be completed in January 2008.
