Additional Measures Taken to Improve Transport Infrastructure of Baku

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend I.Khalilova / The Azerbaijani Transport Ministry has developed additional measures under the State program to improve the Baku transport infrastructure and the final document was presented to the Government, Sadraddin Mammadov, the head of Transport Policy Economy Department of the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry said on 5 December.

According to Mammadov the necessity for improvement measures by 2011 is linked with the current project which was a 2-year plan and will be completed by the end of 2007.

Mammadov said that 11 roads, highways, and underpasses and multi-story bus stops will be built by 2011.

According to the plan, nearly 9 transport junctions and 13 underpasses will be built in Baku during 2006-2007. The fifth bridge at Bunyatov street was commissioned in September. Presently the construction of four highways near the Mashadi Azezbayov station, the Excelsior hotel, the Khalglar Dostlugu station and within the third micro-district is ongoing.

Two transport junctions will be built at the beginning of 2008.

The construction work is carried out within the project of unloading Baku's transport infrastructure at the Azerbaijani President's decree on "Improvement of transport system in Baku in 2006-2007". The total cost of the project is AZN 300mln.
