Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr U. Ismayilova / There are some 10,000 illegal migrants residing in Azerbaijan, the head of the Migration Office at the Azerbaijani Labour and Social Protection Ministry Rauf Tagiyev said on 6 December.
"In this connection the Ministry has developed and submitted to the Government a set of proposals on management of labour migration," Tagiyev said.
According to Tagiyev, a total of 1,698 labour migrants are residing in Azerbaijan, with 45% of them being employed in oil field. In 2006, some 76% of labour migrants were engaged in oil sector. Beginning from 1998, migration balance has been positive in Azerbaijan (the number of those leaving the country is less than the number of those arriving in the country), he said.
