Tokyo stocks open higher ahead of US Federal Reserve's meeting

( dpa )- Tokyo stocks opened slightly higher Wednesday as investors waited for the outcome of the US Federal Reserve's policy meeting.

The Nikkei 225 Stock Average rose slightly 15.71 points, or 0.12 per cent, to 13,494.57.

The broader Topix index of all first-section issues was also up 7.85 points, or 0.59 per cent, to 1,336.58.

The US Federal Open Market Committee opened the session Tuesday and a decision was expected Wednesday around 1915 GMT.

On currency markets at 9 am (0000 GMT), the dollar was quoted at 107.00-107.05 yen, up from Tuesday's 5 pm quote of 106.74-76 yen.

The euro was quoted at 1.4770-75 dollars, up from Tuesday's 5 pm quote of 1.4764-66 dollars, and at 158.05-10 yen, up from 157.60-64 yen.
