( dpa ) - Tokyo stocks open higher Tuesday as major European stock markets gained overnight and a weaker yen boosted mainly export-oriented issues.
The Nikkei 225 Stock Average rose 75.45 points in morning trading, or 0.55 per cent, to 13,710.85.
The broader Topix index of all first-section issues was also up 6.93 points, or 0.52 per cent, to 1,339.92.
A weaker yen, which makes Japanese products cheaper abroad, helped exporters' shares, such as Nissan Motor Co and Toyota Motor Corp.
On currency markets at midday (0300 GMT), the dollar was quoted at 108.17-20 yen, up from Monday's 5 pm quote of 108.01-03 yen.
The euro was quoted at 1.4645-50 dollars, down from Monday's 5 pm quote of 1.4673-75 dollars, and at 158.44-49 yen, down from 158.49-53 yen.
