Azerbaijan, Ganja, 27 February / Trend corr V. Mammadov/ Sale of the gas-furnaces manufactured in Iran was prohibited in Azerbaijan's Ganja city, Eldar Novaliyev, the head of the Ganja-Gazakh Sector of the State Service for Consumer Market Control attached to the Azerbaijani Economic Development Ministry, said on 26 February.
"The gas-furnaces which pose danger for human health have been completely removed from sale," he said.
According to Namig Nabiyev, the head physician at the first-aid station in Ganja, five gas poisoning occurred during the recent two months as a result of using the Iranian gas-furnaces. One people died.
In January, over 40 gas-related cases took place in Azerbaijan (1/3 of the same cases of 2007). As a result, 16 died and 49 suffered injuries in January.
The head of the Azerigaz CJSC Alikhan Malikov had previously ordered its employees to verify whether there are problems with using gas devices by subscribers and to stop gas supply to such subscribers.
Ganja is located 365km west of Baku.
