Budget Surplus in GDP in Azerbaijan Reaches 35%

Azerbaijan, Baku, 5 March / Trend corr. I.Khalilova / In Jan 2008, revenue of the State budget of Azerbaijan amounted to AZN 978,3mln (42.8% of GDP), an increase of 89.9% compared to the last year's figures. The expenditure of the State budget increased by 95.1% and made up AZN 179.5mln (7.9% of GDP). The surplus of the State budget totaled AZN 798.8 mln (34.9% of GDP).

Some 78.2% (AZN 764.6mln) of the revenue of the State budget has been covered at the expense of Taxes Ministry. The forecast on tax collections made up 129.5%. The revenue from customs duties totaled AZN 88.6mln (with special weight comprising 9.1%), fulfilling the forecast by 100.7%.

In this period, AZN 109.3mln was received from VAT (11.2% of gross revenues), AZN 579.2mln (59.2%) - profit tax, AZN 37.8mln (3.9%) - income tax, AZN 31.8mln (3.3%) - excise tax and AZN 39.3mln (4%) from taxes for external-economical activities.

In Jan of 2008, AZN 95mln (52.9%) has been spent on social provisions and public protection, AZN 13.5mln (7.5%) - education, AZN 2mln (31.1%) - health, AZN 10 mln (5.6%) -expenditure of prosecutor's offices, security, law enforcement and courts, AZN 10.4mln (5.8%) - investment to the economy of the country, AZN 0.4mln (0.2%) -housing and communal services and AZN 4.3mln (2.4%) on agriculture, forest economy and fishing. AZN 5.7mln (3.2%) was spent for the payment of salaries, pensions and allowances.
