Badalova/ The United States' state-run Energy Information Administration (EIA) forecasts increase in biomass production in the United States in 2008 to 3.83 quadrillion BTU from 3.33 quadrillions BTU of 2007. By 2030 biomass production in the United States will increase to 8.12 quadrillions BTU and consumption will comprise 5.51 quadrillions BTU per year.
"The percent of biomass by 2030 will amount to 10% of the US's total fuel production," EIA analyst Neil Gamson told Trend on 29 March.
According to the executive director of the American Petroleum Institute (API) Red Cavaney, besides of oil and gas, the United States should maintain development of alternative and renewable power sources, Energy Intelligence Group reported.
According to Gamson, increase in biofuel consumption will considerably affect oil prices. "As biofuel consumption will exceed petrol consumption, oil prices will be far higher than now," Gamson said.
According to IEA, by 2030 the state biofuel production will increase by 150mln tons of oil equivalent and the annual growth rate will amount to 7-9%. By 2030 biofuel percent in transport field will total 4-6%.
Biomass is the sixth power source available for the time being. Biomass follows shale oil, uranium, coal, oil and natural gas. Annually some 170bln tons of initial biomass and the same volume disappears.
Biomass is used for production of heat, electric power, biofuel, biogas (methane, hydrogen).
The main part of biomass (up to 80%), mainly wood, is used for heating of houses and cooking in developing countries.
