British Consultant Develops Strategy for Solid Domestic Wastes Treatment

Azerbaijan, Baku, 7 May / Trend corr. I.Khalilova / Curry& Brown, the British company and consultant of Azerbaijani Ministry of Economic Development, has completely developed a project on strategic solid domestic wastes treatment in Baku and Absheron, Mikail Jabbarov, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Azerbaijan, stated.

"We have discussed the document jointly with experts of the World Bank, which positively evaluated the strategy," Jabbarov stated.

According to Jabbarov, the strategy will be implemented stage by stage. The project has already been developed to establish a joint-stock company 'Clean city' in order to refine the territory of Baku from domestic wastes. The document was submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers, but the term for establishment of the joint stock company has not been specified yet.

Initially, joint stock company will be set up as 100% state enterprise. Municipalities and private sector could be attracted in the future.

"The State is planning to create a corresponding infrastructure, provide its efficient activities and carry out capitalization, and then gradually transferring it to municipalities and private sector," the Deputy Minister stated.

According to official data, 1mln of domestic wastes are collected around Baku per year.
