U.Ismayilova / The Labour Inspection under the Labour and Social Protection Ministry of Azerbaijan granted licenses to eight construction companies to continue construction works. The construction works were suspended in these companies in September 2007 and March 2008 due to violation of technical security rules, Avaz Nabiyev, Head of the Inspection department, said.
"At present, licenses have not been granted to construction companies Cennet MTK and Karat," Nabiyev said.
A 16-storeyed building collapsed in Baku City on 28 August. Twenty-five people died. One of the reasons for collapse was the violation of technical security rules by the company. According to experts, the reason for collapse became violation of technical rules.
After the collapse the President of Azerbaijan issued a decree to reinforce control over the construction sector. Since September 2007, the Labour Inspection started to implement monitoring to reveal violation of technical building rules by companies.
The Inspectorate suspended functioning of ten companies, Dizayn MTK, Kapitol, NES MMC, Star MMC, Yuksel Insaat, Inam-Bayram, Tereqqi-Tikinti and Interyer MTK after revealing violation of building rules by companies.
Nabiyev said that the companies appealed to Inspection to hold repeated monitoring and to restore their license for construction works. "However, the repeated monitoring was also negative and Inspection did not issue a license to these companies," Nabiyev said.
According to the results of monitoring held by the Inspection, in 2007, 71 people died in construction sector, which made up 47.6% of dead in the manufacturing sector.
