Single window principle will allow to reduce registration time in Azerbaijan’s check points to 20 minutes: State Customs Committee

Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 17/ Trend , A. Badalova/ "Introduction of a single window principle in Azerbaijan's check points from Jan 1, 2009 will allow to reduce duration of check ups to 20 minutes," Aydin Aliyev, chief of the State Customs Committee, said.

"In the absence of any violations, cargos will be able to pass the border for 20 minutes," Aliyev said. "In case of presence of problems and lack of necessary documents, certain check ups will be conducted."

"Introduction of this principle will contribute to speeding up traffic and improving business climate in Azerbaijan, reducing expenses and ensuring transparency," Aliyev said in presentation of a single window on Dec. 17.

At present, cargo are checked not only by the State Customs Committee and State Border Service, they are also controlled by the State Phytosanitary Service, State Veterinary Service, Sanitary Office at the Health Ministry, Ministry of Transport and Interior Ministry.

One of the key principles of single window is the passage of cargo and vehicles through border under control of only one agency. In case of any violation, customs agencies will hold consultations with relevant bodies and liability will be defined by the legislation.

"Reputation of every country is shaped in its borders. Azerbaijan's borders should set an example for other countries. We will make every effort to achieve this goal," Aliyev said.
