Georgia's negative trade balance increased to $4.56 billion in 2008 compared to $3.98 billion in 2007, the Georgian Statistics Department said on Feb. 4.
The country's foreign trade increased 17.2 percent and hit $7.55 billion in 2008.
Export operations totaled $1.49 billion, or 21.5 percent more than in 2007.
Turkey is Georgia's biggest foreign trade partner, with trade accounting for $1.2 billion in 2008. The trade accounted for 15.9 percent of Georgia's total foreign trade last year.
Azerbaijan is Georgia's second biggest foreign trade partner at $813.2 million in 2008, or 56.4 percent more than in 2007. The trade accounted for 10.8 percent of Georgia's total foreign trade last year.
Ukraine is the Georgia's third biggest foreign trade partner at $791.8 million followed by Germany at $467 million, Russia at $454 million, the U.S. at $343.5 million, China at $307 million, the United Arab Emirates at $283.8 million, Bulgaria at $231 million and Italy at $198.7 million.
Georgia's key exports were ferro-alloy, black scrap metal and copper.
