Over 400 unfounded applications for invalidity allowances in 2008

In 2008, 215,306 persons over 18 year old in Azerbaijan were issued different disability statuses, Azerbaijani Labor and Social Protection Minister Fuzuli Alakbarov said at a meeting on targeted social aid and medical social expertise on Feb. 6.

Out of them, 24,770 people (11.5 percent) were issued a disability status first time and 190,536 people second time. Out of those who underwent past disability re-examination, 8,959 people (4.5 percent) were fully rehabilitated, 4,466 (2.6 percent) were partially rehabilitated. Last year, it was decided to provide 6,892 people under the age of 18 the right to receive social benefits for the first time, 23,709 people to receive them for the second time.

Health centers unfoundedly sent 411 people to medical-social expert commissions, he said.

A total of 5,826 invalids were rehabilitated and provided prosthetic and orthopedic services in Azerbaijan in 2008, compared to 5,156 in 2007.
