GDP growth rate drops in Azerbaijan in January

Azerbaijani GDP decreased 2.6 percent in January 2009 compared to 2008, the State Statistics Committee said on Feb. 19. GDP per capita amounted to 215.9 manat ($268,9), an increase of 19.6 percent from the previous year.

General production volume in all economic sectors was 55.4 percent, amounting to 46.8 percent (872.7 million manat) of the GDP. Industry composed the bulk at 57.4 percent, or 21.8 billion manat. The services sector accounted for 34.6 percent of the GDP.

Extra cost production in the services sector increased 4.9 percent compared to 2008. 

Production and import net taxes amounted to 10 percent of the GDP.

In January, agriculture, hunting and forestry provided 66.3 billion manat, or 3.6 percent of the GDP; construction - 92.2 billion manat (5 percent); transport - 163.5 billion manat (8.8 percent); communication and post service - 40 million manat (2.2 percent); wholesale and retail trade, automobile field, domestic products and repairing personal-use items - 202.8 billion manat (10.9 percent); restaurants and hotels - 25.8 million manat (1.4 percent); and social and other services - 211.1 billion manat (11.3 percent).

On Feb. 19, the official exchange rate is 0.8062 manat to $1.
