Uzbek President receives WB Vice-President for Central Asia

The President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Shigeo Katsu in the residence Aksaray on Feb. 27, press service of Uzbek President reported. 

"Uzbekistan highly appreciates cooperation with the WB, Islam Karimov said. We consider the WB as the leading international financial institute assisting in implementation of reforms, growth of economy in world countries."

Shigeo Katsu thanked the Uzbek President for sincere reception. Uzbek reforms enable to soften impact of the global world crisis and the WB supports consistent development of cooperation with Uzbekistan, he said.

Further development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the WB, realization of joint projects, opportunities to devise and realize new projects, as well as regional cooperation in Central Asia were discussed at the meeting. Over 15 projects were realized jointly with the WB in Uzbekistan over the last period. Their total cost exceeds $1 billion.

Uzbekistan became the WB member in September 1992. Presently, the WB joins the Swiss group of members-countries of the international financial institute.

The WB opened its representation in Tashkent in 1992. Fundamental importance in mutual cooperation is attached to realization of the projects directed towards increasing effectiveness of reforms and welfare of people.
