Azerbaijan shows interest in food export to Byelorussia

Azerbaijan is interested in active food export to Byelorussia, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Agriculture said on April 21.

"As production of fruits, vegetables, vegetable oil, tomato paste, juices fully cover domestic demand in the country, it would be advisable to sell them abroad, including Byelorussia," the Azerbaijani Ministry of Agriculture said.

Azerbaijani interest is reflected in package of proposals prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture to submit to Azerbaijani-Byelorussian inter-governmental commission on economic cooperation within the meeting.

The package of proposals include seed-farming cooperation for development of potato growing in Azerbaijan, implementation of joint projects, sale of fruits, including pomegranate, persimmon, melons and gourds in case of appropriate demand in Byelorussia, etc. 

Presently, exact term of the fifth meeting of Azerbaijani-Byelorussian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation scheduled for April 23-24 is under agreement, Byelorussian embassy to Azerbaijan said. 

Turnover between Azerbaijan and Byelorussia increased на 24.5 percent - to $111.6 million in 2008, Byelorussian export in Azerbaijan increased 22 percent - to $105.4 million in 2008, import from Azerbaijan to Byelorussia increased 1.9 times - to $6.2 million.

Azerbaijan supplies Byelorussia with synthetic material, tobacco, fruit and vegetable juices, cotton fiber, acyclic alcohol, cars, equipment, oil chemical production.
