Azerbaijan, Baku, May 6 / Trend , S.Babayeva /

"Azerbaijan is not buying, and never imported products of animal origin from Mexico," Press Secretary of the State Veterinary Service at the Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry Yolchu Khanveli said when commenting on the Mexican Government's address to the WTO on limitation of some countries' importing pork from this country.

Foreign media reported that Mexico officially asked the World Trade Organization about restrictions on imports of pork, which imposed 8 countries in response to the epidemic of A/H1N1 influenza. These are Azerbaijan, Bolivia, Honduras, China, UAE, Russia, Ukraine and Ecuador.

Mexico Economy Minister Gerardo Ruiz Mateos said at the news conference in Mexico on May 5 that the inquiry is an official request to 8 countries to submit their explanations on limitation, including their scientific justification."

"In May we imposed a ban on the import of livestock products to Azerbaijan, not only from Mexico, but from all over the American continent. We have not received any statements about Mexico. Besides, Azerbaijan is not a member of the WTO," Khanveli said.

For the purpose of preventive measures on "swine flu", all pig farms in the country were transferred to the private places, as well as activities of the veterinary offices were strengthened in the regions.
