Consortium of foreign companies designing feasibility study to develop new lines for Baku Subway

A consortium of foreign companies to finalize the designing of feasibility study of new transport links in the "State program for 20-year development of the Baku subway," in 14 months, a source from subway said.

The consortium of foreign companies includes French SYSTRA SA, Czech MOTT McDonalds and south SAMAN. The leading role in this consortium has a French company. "The consortium must complete all work in 14 months," the source said.

Head of the Baku Subway Tagi Ahmadov said companies are closely working with the State Committee on Statistics and the Ministry of Transport of Azerbaijan, examining passengers on public transport land and population density over the past 20 years.

Foreign companies working with the Baku City Administration, Ministry of Health and Education to examine the location of health facilities and education in the city, the source said.

The President Fund has allocated to the Baku Subway 2 million manats to launch the program. "The figure will be increased three times the next year," the source said.

Forty new metro stations will be opened within the framework of the program.

The Baku Subway has been operating since 1967 and has 21 stations. The 22nd new Prospekt Azadlig station will be operated before the end of the year, the source said.
