The Azerbaijani Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources intends to tighten measures against entrepreneurs - owners of resort areas on the shore of the Caspian Sea, polluting beach area, Minister of Ecology, Huseyngulu Baghirov said on July 13.

"We intend to increase the powers during monitoring and will not be satisfied with appeals to courts in anticipation of a decent punishment," said Baghirov.

Baghirov said the ministry intends to punish the offenders through applying certain penalties in line with the Code of Administrative Violations.

Those resting on the beaches usually pollute local beaches, said the minister.

"Just those resting these should be responsible for the pollution of beaches," said the minister.

Speaking about the state of water in the Caspian Sea, Baghirov said that the water in the Bilgeh, Shuvalan and Mardakan villages was clean for the first time during last 25 years due to the set of special stations for water purification, according to the analysis of the Health Ministry.

"Thanks to 17 such stations, 82 kilometers of the northern coast of the Absheron Peninsula up to the Novkhani town have become clear as a result of the conducted measures," said the minister.

The last station for water purification has been installed in the Novkhani village, said the minister. The stations have not been installed on the beach in Sumgayit due to low level of pollution, he added.

"Earlier, the water pollution on the Baku beaches comprised 420,000 microbes per liter of water, but now this figure has been cut to 5,000-6,000 liter due to the installed stations," the minister said.
