Azerbaijani south region to cover demand for grain for 80 percent owing to internal production

Grain harvest was launched in mountain region of Lerik. Grain fields increased 927 hectares hitting 3,177 hectares compared to 2008, agrarian department of executive power said on July 17.
Plenty of precipitation provided growth of crop capacity in spring. Grain production significantly increased in Lerik for 5 years. If roughly 4,551 tons of grain were gathered in 2008, it is forecasted roughly 5,300 tons in 2009.
Crop capacity of each hectare hits 25 centners in 2009. Harvest gathered in 2009 will cover 80 percent of region demand. Land owners intend to store up flour for winter.
There are 11,400 hectares of land for sowing; 3,177 hectares are used in Lerik. It is planned to expand grain area next season.
