Global crisis not affect social projects in Azerbaijan: head of parliamentary committee

The global financial crisis did not affect implementation of social projects in Azerbaijan, head of the standing parliamentary commission for social policy Hadi Rajabli said in an interview posted on the official website of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party.
"During the year, decline was not recorded in social spending in Azerbaijan," said Rajabli.

According to him, if the 2008 Public budget was socio-directed, as well as with high level of development, "I think the 2009budget could be called socio-designed and sustainable to the crisis."

During January-July 2009 the budget spent 617.9 million manat on social security and protection of the population, 33 percent higher than the costs in the same period of last year, 688.3 million manat (31 percent more) - on education, 194.7 million manat (28.2 percent) - health.

Thus, 31.5 percent ($1.6626 billion manat) of public expenditure was spent on the payment of public wages, pensions and benefits.
