Baku metro gets new carriages made in Russia

Baku Metro has received 10 new carriages made by Russian Metrovagonmash OJSC, a source in metro said on September 2.

"About 10 new carriages made in Russia have been already received, and the rest 5 carriages will be got in the nearest future," a source said. Baku Metro plans to buy 15 carriages made by Metrovagonmash OJSC in 2009.

Before, Baku metro got 35 carriages in 2008. Baku Metro purchased 25 carriages in 2007.

Mytishinskiy Plant Metrovagonmash supplies carriages for Baku subway over 30 years. The carriages produced at the plant near Moscow, hit about 80 percent of its fleet.

The Baku metro functions since 1967 (from Icheri Sheher station to Nariman Narimanov station with three intermediate stations). Seven stations of the Baku metro, including Icheri Sheher, Sahil, 28 May, Jafar Jabbarli, Khatai, Nizami and Elmler Akademiyasi, are deep-laid stations with Bakmil being surface and the rest -shallow-laid (altogether 21 stations).

The Baku metro plans to put into operation another station Azadliq by late 2009.
