Iranian hand-woven carpet exhibition and sale hall opens in Moscow

Iranian hand-woven carpet exhibition and sale salon opened in Moscow on Tuesday with Tehran's ambassador to Russia, Iranian officials, and businessmen of the two countries in attendance.

In the opening ceremony, Iran's Ambassador Mahmoud-Reza Sajjadi said that Persian carpets are not only a commercial item, but also a symbol of the Islamic Republic of Iran's civilization, history and cultural capacity.

He pointed out that carpet trade is a profitable business and one of the means of exporting Iran's culture abroad.

The exhibition is located in central Moscow in the vicinity of Itar-Tass news agency.  

Carpet-weaving is undoubtedly one of the most distinguished manifestations of Persian culture and art, and dates back to ancient Persia.

In 2008, Iran's exports of hand-woven carpets were $420 million.

There is an estimated population of 1.2 million weavers in Iran producing carpets for domestic markets and international export.
